Yesterday I installed the new Mac OS X Mavericks, in substitution for the OSX Snow Leopard that I used before, and after that my HP Scanjet 2400 is not working anymore and I couldn’t find a driver for it on the Internet. I’m not sure if I can help you on this at this moment, since I do not have an unsupported scanner at hand, but it might just be that the OSX 10.8 SANE drivers will also work in OSX 10.9 Mavericks…
I do not have any confirmation on this, but you might want to try 😉

Sorry to hear it doesn’t work…
for now, it seems like there’s only 2 options when you’ve already upgraded to OSX 10.9 Mavericks :
1- wait for Ellert.se (or someone else) to come up with a set of installers for the SANE drivers for OSX 10.9 Mavericks
2- get a new scanner (but at this moment it’s not exactly clear which scanners are pre-installed by OSX 10.9 Mavericks,
so that might not be as straight-forward as you might wish either…)

MLPostFactor officially only supports installing OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion (hence the name, MLPostFactor is an abbreviation for MountainLionPostFactor).
The same developers have have come up with a successor to MLPostFactor called MacPostFactor, which is still in beta and only seems to support MacPros with upgraded graphics cards (so no iMacs, MacBooks, MacBook Pros or Mac minis) up until now…
…and for you there seems to be even more bad news : the developers seem to have stopped further development on MacPostFactor since beginning of this year…
There is mention of a few alternative (and more complex) options to try what you want, but those seem to be very buggy, so I would suggest you to stick with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion…
