fixed : select only the photos that were taken with your own iPhone in Photos.app

Question :
During a trip with (business) friends, I have taken photos with my iPhone myself. But in the Photos.app, they have gotten mixed up with the photos taken by my friends, that I have received though Whatsapp… but als it turns out, those ar in a far more basic photo resolution then my own pictures…

Is there any way to separate the photos taken by me from the ones taken by others ?

Answer :
Yes, it is possible to select only the photos taken with your own iPhone.
To do that, do this :
– on your iPhone, open the Settings.app
– in the Settings page, scroll down and select “General”
– then, in the top of the General page, select “About”
– then, in the top of the About page, at “Name”, see the name of your iPhone (and remember it)
– then exit the Settings.app and open the Photos.app
– now, in the page that opens, click on the “Search” icon (bottom right)
– then, in the page that opens, in the top search bar, typ the name of your iPhone (the name that you have just found in the Settings.app)
– then, in the search results, you will get a preview of 9 photos taken with your own iPhone
– now, just above the top right photo preview, click “See All”
– on the next page that opens, you will now find all the photos taken with your own iPhone

That’s it !

NOTE : there is not easy way (yet) to search for photos NOT taken with your own iPhone in iOS at htis moment… that should be done in the Photos.app on your Mac

fixed : search inside a WhatsApp chat

Question :

I have been using WhatsApp for a long time now, and I have some group chats that have an enormous amount of text messages. Now, I want to look up some info someone has posted a few months ago. I have narrowed down the group chats that that specific text message could be in, but even after having scrolled and even read through loads of messages, I can’t find the info I am looking for…

Isn’t there any way to search inside chats in WhatsApp ?

Answer :

Yes, you can search inside WhatsApp messages.

To do so, do this :

  • in WhatsApp, go out of any group chat you might be in
  • in the main Chats screen, swipe down from the top
  • now a search bar appears just below the word Chats
  • typ the text you are looking for inside the searchbar
  • …and all chat messages containing that text will be shown

fixed : find specific info on a webpage that is already open on your iPhone

Question :

I am looking for information on the internet, and now Google found some interesting websites for me. I can see most of the info I am searching for in the Google-preview of the website, but when I go to the website using the link Google provides, it opens a page with so much info that I can’t find what I’m looking for…

On my Mac, in Safari, I would typ the [CMD]+[F] key-combo and get a search field in the top right of the webpage where I can typ what I am looking for exactly, and it will highlight all occurrences of this search term on the webpage and guide me to them instantly…

But how can I do something similar on my iPhone ?

Answer :

Since you don’t have a keyboard with the option to press the [CMD]+[F] key-combo on your iPhone, Apple has come up with a slightly different solution for searching within a webpage :

  • in Safari, go to the webpage that should have the information you are searching for
  • when the webpage is open in Safari, tap on the bottom of the screen (about 1cm from the bottom)
  • when the top & bottom bars come up, click on the “Share”-button (the square with the arrow pointing upward)
  • in the menu that comes up, click on the “Find On Page”-button (looking glass icon)
  • in the search field that comes up, type your search term
  • then all occurrences of your search term will be highlighted and you can flip through them using the up & down arrows on the left (next to the search field)
  • when you want to go back to your regular website viewing, click on the “Done”-button

That’s it !
