!! BEWARE !!

I recently got an SMS message claiming to be from my bank ( ING Bank in this case ) from some mobile telephone number with the following text :

[Bank name] / Up till now you have been using an outdated debit card. Request the new debit card for free before [date – within a few days] through our recycle procedure: [shortened URL link]

Clinking on this link starts Safari, which immediately comes up with a warning page stating “! Deceptive Website Warning” eventhough the URL displayed is very deceptively having the bank’s name in it…

This is a scam. Do not fall for this ! This is a phishing scam : they are trying to get your bank account login codes, passwords and/or credit and debit cards !

I have been assured by the real ING Bank that tis is a scam ! They will never tell you to update any services through SMS messages or eMails or telephone ! If you need to upgrade your Credit or Debit Card, they will contact you using a letter in the traditional post.

First, ‘Block this caller’, then ‘delete this message’ to get rid of this.

to ‘Block this caller’ do this :

• open the SMS message
• click on the >sign that’s immediately after the sender’s telephone no.
• from the options that appear, click the info-button
• in the next screen that appears, click on the >sign that’s next to the telephone-icon that is on the right
• BEWARE ! : do not touch anything else ! 
• in the next window, click on “Block this caller”
• that’s it…

to ‘delete this message’ do this :

• open Messages.app on your iPhone
• find the bank-scam email in the list of recent messages, but don’t click on it !
• then, click on the 3dot-icon
• select “Manage Messages List”
• when the tick boxes appear, put a checkmark in the tick box that’s in front of the scam message
• then click “Delete” (bottom right)
• that’s it…
