fixed : iPhone keeps asking for old eMail-account’s password

Posted on 22-11-2018 by MacManus.nl

Question :

On my iPhone I keep getting a warning message that I need to log in to an old eMail-account that I no longer own. I just need the old mailbox around on my Mac because I might need to access the old eMails sometime in the future, but I don’t need any of it on my iPhone.

What can I do ?

Answer :

On your Mac, you just need to set the account to ‘Inactive’. To do so, do this :

  • open Mail.app
  • in the top menu bar, top left, next to the Apple-logo, click on Mail
  • in the pulldown-menu, click on Accounts
  • in the new window that opens, click on the old eMail-account in the list on the left
  • in the info that appears, make sure that “Enable this account” is unchecked

Then, on your iPhone, make sure that the old eMail-address is not active in any way :

  • open the Settings.app
  • in the window that opens (“Settings”), scroll down and click on Mail
  • in the window that opens (“Mail”), click on Notifications
  • in the window that opens (“Notifications”), see if the old eMail-address is listed
  • if it’s not listed, you’re okay
  • if it is listed, click on it
  • in the window that opens, switch “Allow Notifications” to OFF
  • then go back/exit to the first window of the Settings.app (“Settings”)
  • click on Notes
  • in the window that opens (“Notes”), at “Default Account” click on the account name on the right
  • in the window that opens (“Default Account”), see if your old eMail-address is listed
  • if it is not listed, you’re okay
  • if it is listed, make sure it isn’t checked as your Default Account
  • then go back / exit to the iPhone’s main screen
  • open the Notes.app
  • Note : you might get a warning message here saying you need to input your old eMail-account’s password… if so, just deny
  • in the window that opens (“Notes”), click on the orange <-icon top left
  • in the window that opens (“Folders”), see if the old eMail-account is listed
  • if it is not listed, you’re okay
  • if it is listed, see how many notes each folder contains, and write those numbers down
  • then click on the >-icon at the right of the old eMail-account
  • in the window that opens (“Notes”), you will see all of the notes that are still on the old eMail-account
  • then click on Edit (top right)
  • then click on Move All (bottom left)
  • in the window that opens, select a folder to move these old notes to (I would suggest to move them to your iCloud account’s folder, but you can choose any other folder, or you can create a new folder by clicking on “New Folder”)
  • then, in the window that opens (“Folders”), your old eMail-account will still be listed, but the number of notes in it will be 0 (and the number of notes in the folder that you’ve previously chosen will have increased by the exact number that was in your old eMail-account)
  • then go back / exit to the iPhone’s main screen
  • open the Settings.app
  • in the window that opens (“Settings”), scroll down and click on “Passwords & Accounts”
  • in the window that opens (“Passwords & Accounts”), see if the old eMail-address is listed
  • if it is not listed, you’re okay
  • if it is listed, see if anything is mentioned below it (e.g. “Inactive”, “Mail” of “Notes”) and click on the >-icon at the right of it
  • in the window that opens, make sure that everything is switched to OFF (e.g. “Mail” and “Notes”)
  • when the “are you sure you want to continue?” pop-up opens, you can now click on “Delete from My iPhone” since you have just moved your notes to another account
  • Note : you might run into a bug here that prevents you from switching of Notes for your old eMail-account, if so : just leave it
  • now go back / exit to your iPhone’s main screen

That’s it !

enjoy 😉

BEWARE ! : iOS 11.2 HomeKit bug !!

**** B E W A R E ****

There is a security-bug in the first versions HomeKit on iOS 11.2

In version 11.2 of iOS, it is possible to take control of your all you HomeKit devices like smart lights, smart locks and smart thermostats.

Solution :

Upgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to iOS 11.2.x or iOS 11.3 or newer when they are released !

For now Apple has fixed this by altering the settings on the HomeKit servers, but a solution for iOS itself is in the works, so upgrade to a newer version of iOS when there is one available !

BEWARE ! : macOS 10.13 High_Sierra must be updated !!

**** B E W A R E ****

There is a security-bug in the first versions of macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

In version 10.13 (10.13.0) and 10.13.1 of macOS High Sierra, it is possible to take control of your Mac by just logging in as ‘root’ and leaving the password blank…

Solution :

Upgrade to macOS High_Sierra 10.13.2 or newer !

Apple has fixed this by releasing an updated version of High_Sierra, so for your own safety, you should upgrade your macOS !

Note : this security-bug was introduced in High_Sierra, so it is no problem in earlier versions of macOS and OSX, including macOS 10.12 Sierra

fixed : wrong location listed when trying to login into iCloud.com

Posted on 30-11-2017 by MacManus.nl

Question :

Today, I needed to use iCloud.com from my computer, but when I opened iCloud.com in Safari on my Mac and tried to login, I got a message that I had two way authorization switched on, and had to verify my login attempt from one of my registered devices. I immediately got a message on my Mac and on my iPhone, that “someone is trying to access my iCloud account from a location near…”, but the place mentioned was not my current location, it even was a place I haven’t visited ever…

What should I do ?

Answer :

Since the inlog attempt notification pops up on your Mac immediately after you try to access iCould.com yourself, you have a near-100% insurance that this occurs because you are trying to login yourself, even if the location isn’t displayed correctly. But for security-reasons, this is not your best option.

This inaccurate location problem is probably caused by the fact that for some reason your ISP (internet service provider) has routed you to a datacenter in the location mentioned and they are connecting you to the Internet from there.

Even though there is no apparent reason to expect any problems if you click OK on the warning asking if you are currently at that far-away location, it would be more secure to click DENY and then click on “resend verification code via SMS”. Then way a second or two and use that code to login on iCloud.com.

That’s is – enjoy !

fixed : login to AmbraSoft online school training on an age restricted user account

Posted on 31-03-2015 by MacManus.nl
Reply

Question :

Our children have a restricted ‘parental guidance’ user account on our old MacBook running MacOSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Just the other day, they got an activation code for the AmbraSoft online learning system (called “Ambrasoft Home via School”).

We tried to run the online module (a.k.a. ‘the website’) on their MacBook (in their user account), but it didn’t run…

…what can we do ?

Answer :

Good thing your children are on a restricted ‘parental guidance’ use account.

The only thing you need to do is give their user account access to the website running the login for AmbraSoft (it’s not on the AmbraSoft website itself… that’s the problem…)

Here’s how to :

1- open Safari and enter this URL :

http://www.ambrasoft.nl

2- then click the button “Direct inloggen” (“Login straight away”) and you will be transferred to this website :

https://familiepakket.mijnklas.nl/Login

3- then click on the pink button named “AmbraSoft thuis via school” (“AmbraSoft Home via School”) and you will be transferred to this URL :

https://www.mijnklas.nl/homeuse/login

4- type your login name and your password and click on the blue button “Inloggen” (“Login”) and you should be transferred to this URL :

https://www.mijnklas.nl/Bedroom

…instead, you will get an error since login failed

5- if you’re using Safari 5.1.x you should now go to “Venster” (“Window”) in the top menu bar and then select “Activiteitenoverzicht” (“Activity Display”)

if you’re using Safari 8.x you should now go to “Develop”, then to “Show Web Inspector” and then select “Bedroom” and “Images” ; there you will see al lot of PNG-images that come from a URL that looks like this : xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net/AmbraSoftContent/

6- in the window that opens (in Safari 5.1.x), you will see a lot of URLs listed, all starting out similar to this :

https://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net/AmbraSoftContent/Web/

in which xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is a code containing both letters and numbers

7- write down the URL you are finding

8- then, open the System Preferences, click on the padlock in the bottom bar, and type your administrator login and password ; then select your children’s user account and click on the “Web” tab

9- make sure the checkmark is in the “Restrict access to websites using explicit materials, then click on the “Adjust…”-button and a pulldown window will open

10- in the upper part (“always allow access to these websites”) click on the plus-sign button and you will get an empty line

11- in that line, type the URL you have previously written down and that looks like this :

https://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net/AmbraSoftContent/Web/

12- then click the “OK”-button and exit the System Preferences

13- then go back to Safari and open this URL :

https://www.mijnklas.nl/Bedroom

14- now you will be able to login and you can start working in Ambrasoft online

that’s it 😉

enjoy !

fixed : Partner’s Password not accepted in TeamViewer

Posted on 16-10-2013 by MacManus.nl

Question :

I’ve been using TeamViewer for quite some time now, and it is perfect to connect to someone else’s computer and look at their screen remotely.

Logging on to the other one’s computer never was a problem, until now…

Now, whenever I try to log onto my (so-called) “Partner’s computer”, I get an error saying “Please Enter Your Partner’s Password”, which actually is what I just did and I’m 100% sure it is the correct password… and every time I try again, I keep getting this same error…

How can I get beyond this error and just log on ?

Answer :

This seems to be an error in TeamViewer 8 (actually version 8.0.20942).

By-passing this error is simple (but very annoying) :

1- type (or select) the desired Partner ID in the entry box of the “Control Remote Computer”-chapter of the initial TeamViewer window and click the “Connect to partner”-button (just like you normally would)

2- in the “TeamViewer Authentication”-window that opens, type your partner’s password in the “Password”-entry box, but do NOT click the “Log on”-button yet ! (*)

3- now, first click on “Advanced” and let the window expand…

4- then, click the “Log on”-button… and your log on will go as smoothly as you’re used to…

That’s it ! enjoy 😉

(*) if you immediately click the “Log on”-button (as you usually would), this will give you the “Please Enter Your Partner’s Password”-error message…

fixed : can’t accept iCloud terms & conditions since iOS 7 upgrade

Posted on 03-10-2013 by MacManus.nl

Question :

I just upgraded to iOS 7 and now my iPhone keeps telling me that I have to accept the Terms & Conditions to be able to (re)connect to my iCloud account…

…but how can I do that when the iCloud setting on my iPhone keeps on being greyed out, so nothing happens when I click on it ?

Note : I can access iCloud from my Mac running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion and though my browser without a problem, but I don’t see any option to (re)accept the new iCloud Terms & Conditions from there either…

What can I do ?

Answer :

This is a strange bug that sometimes appears during the iOS 7 upgrade…

The solutions is rather simple, but not really obvious… :

on your iPhone (in iOS 7), open the “Find My Friends”-app and login using your Apple ID (= your iCloud ID) ; during the login you will be asked to accept the new iCloud Terms & Conditions, and if you do just that, iCloud-services will be ‘auto-magically’ be restored allover iOS 7…

For those of you who need a little more guidance on how to do this :

1- on your iPhone, open the Settings app, and go to “General”, then click on the triangular arrow behind “Restrictions    On” and type your Restrictions-password (if you have “Restrictions    Off” you can skip the next step)

2- in the Restrictions settings, scroll down to “ALLOW CHANGES:” and make sure that “Accounts” is set to changes being allowed

3- then press the Home-button (the button below the screen on the front) once to exit the Settings app and go back to the main screen

4- then put your finger on the middle of the screen (inbetween the icons) and swipe down, so the Search field and keyboard will appear

5- in the Search field, type “Find Friends”, and click on the app icon to open it when it appears in the search result list

6- on the Find My Friends app, type your Apple ID and your password and click on Sign In

7- now you will first get the new iCloud Terms & Conditions, accept those

8- when done, click on the Home-button again (once), and return to the Settings app to switch the Accounts preference inside Restrictions back to ‘changes not allowed’

…that’s it !

Enjoy 😉
