fixed : gmatevents prevented updates from being installed

Question :

I have auto-updating turned on in macOS 10.14 Mojave, but today I got an error message that “gmatevents” prevented updates from being installed”.

What is wrong and how do I fix it ?

Answer :

Gmatevents is an application that runs in the back of macOS when you install iTrash Ghost Mode. To get rid off it, do this :

  • go to Apple-menu (the Apple-icon top-left in the Finder)
  • open System Preferences from the pull-down menu
  • in the window that opens, click on Users & Groups
  • in the window that opens, click on the account of the person who is the Current User (on the left)
  • then click on the “Login Items” tab
  • in the list that opens, you will see “iTrashGhost”
  • select “iTrashGhost” then click the -(minus) button below the list
  • the “iTrashGhost” will now disappear from the list
  • exit System Preferences
  • you should no longer get the error message now

that’s it… enjoy 😉

fixed : easily collect lots of studs in LEGO Batman 3 “Beyond Gotham” game

Question :

My children are really exited about playing the LEGO Batman 3 “Beyond Gotham” game.

Now they keep asking me how to collect as many studs (money-points) as possible quickly and easily.

Can you help me ?

Answer :

Probably the best place in the entire game to collect stud-money easily is in the “Lantern Menace”-level. There you should electrocute the tentacles on the left side. Then there will be fire. To collect studs, extinguish the fire using a character that has ice-breath (like any version of Superman, Supergirl or Superboy) or an ice-gun (like Captain Cold, Mr. Freeze, Geoff Johns and Batman in Arctic Suit). Note that this can be done extra quickly when playing the game with two players instead of just one, since simply switching players enables you to continuously collect studs, either through player 1 or player 2.

Using the Red Bricks for “Studs x2”, “Studs x4”, “Studs x6”, “Studs x8” and/or “Studs x10” will of course multiply your collection of stud-money even more…

That’s it.

Enjoy !

Question :

My children are really exited about playing the LEGO Batman 3 “Beyond Gotham” game.

Now they keep asking me how to unlock the character called “Green Loontern” (who looks like Daffy Duck in a Green Lantern suit). I’ve searched the internet, but I can’t find the answer to where to unlock the character for Free Play mode.

Can you help me ?

Answer :

The solution appears to be rather simple :

Just play the game in Free Play and achieve all Green Loontern mini-challenges in each Hub world.

That’s it.

Enjoy !

UPDATE : the real LEGO minifigure of Bat-Mite is now available in the LEGO Minifigure DC Super Heroes Series (set 71026 assorti) ; this Bat-Mite minifigure is exactly the one that is featured in the LEGO Batman 3 “Beyond Gotham” game !

If you want to get your hands on one, you can try to get lucky and try a mystery minifigure bag in your local LEGO Brand Store or your local toy store (or online at LEGO or Amazon or others).

And if you want to be sure you get the Bat-mite minifigure, you can try BrickLink. Just be sure to order one with all accessories included 😉

tip : get Keynote, Pages & Numbers for FREE with OSX 10.9 Mavericks

Question :

I heard that you can get the new versions of Keynote, Pages and Numbers for FREE when you upgrade to OSX 10.9 Mavericks.

Is that true ? And how do I get them ?

Answer :

Yes, it’s true !

But… there is a tricky part in this… BEWARE !

This can ONLY be done BEFORE you upgrade to OSX 10.9 Mavericks, as it is a (deliberate) loophole in the OSX 10.9 Mavericks upgrade process :

Apple is shifting all installations of it’s software to the Mac App Store, and the OSX 10.9 Mavericks installer therefore checks for all previous versions of Apple app’s that you have installed on OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion…

all versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Aperture (!) will be ‘upgraded’ to the latest Mac App Store versions of the same apps.

note : even trail-versions and illegally copied versions will be ‘upgraded’ to full legal versions for FREE !

So, get an old version of the iWork apps (and/or Aperture) installed before you upgrade to OSX 10.9 Mavericks, and you get the new versions for FREE.

Enjoy !

fixed : NSURLErrorDomain Error while updating through Mac App Store

Question :

When I tried to install the updates that were available in the Mac App Store today, I got a “NSURLErrorDomain”-error, and the update refused to install…

…what can I do to get the update installed anyhow ?

Answer :

This is the type of error that you might encounter when trying to upgrade a piece of Apple software in the Mac App Store on OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion.

The fix is relatively simple (ironically, this does render the use of the Mac App Store obsolete) :

Go to the Apple website, download the update you’re having problems with there, and install it manually.

http://support.apple.com/downloads/

That’s it.

e.g. when trying to upgrade Safari 6 to Safari 6.0.2 you might get the error message “(NSURLErrorDomain error -3001.)(102)” ; you can fix that by getting the right update here :

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/53/02/041-8081/2jwp4wjrwygtm4lc608qy4h0n4a9yyq 37g/Safari6.0.2Mountain.pkg

e.g. when trying to upgrade Mountain Lion itself to version 10.8.1 through the Mac App Store, you might get the error message “(NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)(102)” ; you can fix that by getting the right update here :

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571

e.g. for the manual update to OSX 10.8.5, go here :

info : are you ready for Mountain Lion ?

Apple is getting everything in place for the release of OSX 10.8 “Mountain Lion” due later this month.

The names of the Macs that will be able to run OSX 10.8 “Mountain Lion” have been published on the Apple website :

http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/

From eldest to newest these Macs are :

– iMac “mid 2007” or newer (so any “Aluminum” iMac)

– MacBook Pro “mid/late 2007” or newer (so any MacBook Pro with an NVIDIA graphics card)

– Mac Pro “early 2008” or newer (so any Mac Pro with the Xeon 5400 “Harpertown” processors or newer)

– MacBook Air “late 2008” or newer (so any MacBook Air with Thunderbolt or MiniDisplayPort)

– MacBook “Aluminum” = “late 2008″ (so the 13” MacBook Pro look-alike)

– MacBook “White – early 2009” or newer (so only the ‘original’ white polycarbonate design versions that have an NVIDIA graphics card)

– Xserve “early 2009” (so only the latest generation with Xeon 5500 “Gainestown” processors)

– Mac mini “early 2009 & late 2009” (so only the original Mac mini design that have an NVIDIA graphics card)

– Mac mini “Aluminum” = “mid 2010” or newer (so any Mac mini of the extra flat redesign)

…that’s the bad news (for some  – those of us with older Macs…)

and the good news is :

you don’t need to have MacOSX 10.7 “Lion” installed to upgrade, you only need MacOSX 10.6 “Snow Leopard” with the “Mac App Store” application (since OSX 10.8 “Mountain Lion” is only available from the Mac App Store…)
