fixed : EyeTV 4 crashes after installing macOS 13 Ventura

Question :

Today I have upgraded to macOS 13 Ventura. Now the EyeTV 4 (64bit) app no longer works. The app doesn’t open, it seems to crash, because a Report or Ignore “Send to Apple” window opens… I’ve tried downloading the latest version of EyeTv from the Geniatech website, but even after installing that, the only thing that I get after starting the app is the Report or Ignore window…

Is there any way to fix this ?

Answer :

For macOS 13 Ventura, you will need at least build 8528 of the EyeTV 4 app. You can download it from the Geniatech website :

http://file.geniatech.com/eyetv4/EyeTV4.0.0_8528.dmg

After installation, you might need to go through the setup steps again… here are some tips if you need to do so :

  • make sure you have your licence number at hand, as you might be asked to enter it anew
  • make sure you select the proper version of the EyeTV-stick you have [ note : the MyGica DVB-T2 is not listed separately, so make sure to select its hardware-twin, the EyeTV Hybrid T2 ]
  • make sure you select the right input source : choose DVB-T/T2 if you have an aerial antenna connected, and choose DVB-C PAL BG if you have a coaxial from you cable-TV provider plugged in

fixed : frozen Dock in macOS ( Dock not responding )

Question :

For some reason, when I started/opened my Mac today and tried to open an app by clicking on it’s icon in the Dock… nothing happened. The Dock didn’t respond… I couldn’t get any app, folder or file to open by clicking on it’s icon in the Dock…

I found a workaround by opening the search window (by clicking on the magnifier icon top right in the macOS menu bar), then typing the application’s name and starting it from there.

But, I want this fixed… what can I do to get the Dock working properly ?

Answer :

There isn’t a clear reason why the macOS Dock freezes up from time to time… so there is no solution that will work in all cases, but to get the macOS Dock working properly again try these (in this order) :

1 – try upgrading to the most up-to-date version of macOS :

  • in the macOS Menu Bar, click on the Apple-icon top left
  • in the pulldown menu that opens, click on “System Preferences” (or “System Settings”)
  • in the System Preferences window (System Settings window) that opens, click on “Software Update” ( the gear / sprocket icon )
  • in the Software Update window that opens, see if there are any new updates to macOS available
  • if there are any, update a.s.a.p. by following the on-screen instructions
  • if there are none, try the next option

2- try restarting your macOS :

  • in the macOS Menu Bar, click on the Apple-icon top left
  • in the pulldown menu that opens, click on “Restart” and follow the on-screen instructions
  • after your Mac has restarted, check if your macOS Dock works now
  • it the Dock now works properly ; great ! well done ! enjoy !
  • if the Dock still doesn’t respond, you can try restarting your Mac by using the “Shut down” option …or try the next option

3- try resetting the Dock using the Terminal.app :

  • in the macOS Menu Bar, click on the magnifier-icon top right
  • in the search field that opens, type “terminal”
  • click on the Terminal.app in the list that appears
  • in the Terminal window that opens, don’t be distracted by the info displayed, just type the following :
  • killall Dock
  • then press Return
  • most of the time it only takes a flash of a second to rested the Dock, sometimes it takes a few moments
  • now quit the Termini.app
  • then click on any app icon in the Dock to see if it starts up and the Dock behaves as expected
  • if it does ; great ! well done ! enjoy !
  • chances this doesn’t work are very, very low… so if this didn’t work, redo the reset of the Dock using the Terminal.app again before trying your last options : keep using a work-around (as mentioned above) until Apple releases a macOS upgrade …or reinstalling macOS on your Mac.

fixed : Google Authenticator.app crashes in iOS

Question :

I need the Google Authenticator.app on my iPhone to generate a authentication code for one of the online (Google) services I need to use on my Mac.

This used to work great, but now, whenever I start the Google Authenticator.app it quits during startup…

I already tried shutting down my iPhone and restarting it, but that didn’t help… the problem persists.

So… how can I fix this ?

 

Answer :

The way to solve this problem with Google Authenticator.app is the same as what you would do with any cashing iOS-app : delete and reinstall.

…but in the current versions of iOS, it is slightly more complicated to remove and reinstall an app from iOS, because Apple has now included the option to delete the app but keep the connected data / information in case you want (or need) to reinstall the app later on.

To delete and reinstall an app from iOS (e.g. Google Authenticator.app), do this :

  • open the Settings.app on your iPhone / iPad
  • in the next window, click on General
  • in the next window, click iPhone Storage
  • in the next window, find Google Authenticator (or any other app you want to delete and reinstall) in the list of apps on the bottom
    • note that the list of apps is not alphabetical, but based on the amount of data an app uses… so if you have lots of apps finding the right one may be a little complicated… you will probably need to scroll almost the end of the list, as Google Authenticator is usually listed for about 15MB
  • click on the name of the app you want to delete (“Authenticator” with the gray-on-white Google’s G logo)
  • in the next window, click “Offload App” (in blue) first
  • when done, click the “Reinstall App” when it appears
  • then exit
  • then open the Google Authenticator.app to check if it runs & works properly
  • if it does, your problem is solved !
    • when the app still crashes, do this :
    • open the Settings.app
    • then click on General
    • then click on iPhone Storage
    • then find (Google) Authenticator in the list of apps, and click on it
    • now, in the next window, click “Delete App” (in red)
      • BEWARE that this does delete all additional data and info that was stored with the app on your iPhone ; if that’s passwords that you have in iCloud (or somewhere else in a cloud service, on your computer or offline in writing) you’re okay… but if it might be photos, videos or documents that you do not want to lose… do NOT click “Delete App”, and try “Offload App” again
    • then exit
    • now open the AppStore.app
    • click on the Search-button (bottom right)
    • click on the seach-line (in gray, on top, with the looking glass and “Games, Apps, Stories and More” in it)
    • then typ the app’s name : Authenticator
    • then click the Search-button
    • in the window that opens, scroll down to the app you need (make sure it’s exactly the one you need, since sometimes various publishers have apps with very similar naming)
    • then click the blue Get-button next to the app’s description to reinstall the app
    • when done, open the app and check if the app runs & works properly

That’s it !

fixed : mysterious March 2013 crash in iPad Calendar

Question :

Whenever I am using the iOS Calendar-app on my iPad, and I try to progress from February 2013 to March 2013 in Month-view, the Calendar-app crashes.

It’s always the same, and it’s in Month-view only…

What can I do ?

Answer :

This is a bug in the Calendar-app (for iPad) in iOS 6.0.1 (and probably in iOS 6.0 also).

Luckily, the solution is extremely simple : just update to iOS 6.1

To do so, do this :

– put the power plug into your iPad, to make sure it is constantly being powered during the update
– go to the Settings-app (gears icon)
– choose General (also a gears icon) from the menu list
– choose Software Update (the top second one listed) in the window
– …and follow the on-screen instructions
– if the update is installed, restart your iPad (if you have a WiFi+3G iPad, you will have to type in your SIM-card’s PIN-code, so make sure you have it readily available)

…then, during set-up, you will have to re-connect to iCloud (= re-enter your AppleID (= iTunes-login name) and password), so make sure you have that at hand also
