I have macOS 10.15 Catalina and Mail.app 13.4 and for some reason, I am now getting an error saying that Mail.app can’t get new mail from my Planet.nl eMail account, even though it used to run without any problem for the past years (I had been using the mailserver setting outlined in this post without running into any problems).
I have tried creating a new eMail account for my Planet.nl-account in Mail.app, but that wasn’t possible without deleting the previously used Planet.nl-account from Mail.app first. But even after deleting the previous Planet.nl-account, whenever I try to setup a new eMail account for my Planet.nl-account, it is automatically set up as a POP3-mailbox and I can’t find any way to change it to an IMAP-mailbox afterwards…
Even though it works as a POP3-mailbox, I don’t want a POP3-mailbox since I want to use it on multiple devices constantly : I want to use it on my Mac, my iPhone and my iPad without running into syncing problems.
How do I setup my Planet.nl-account as an IMAP-mailbox on Mail.app ?
The problem you are running into seems to have to do with the fact that it’s a long long time ago (actually in the summer of 2008, so nearly 15 years ago) that internetprovider Planet.nl was integrated into (or ‘replaced by’ if you prefer) it’s mother-brand internetprovider KPN, which meant that all Planet.nl mail-servers were replaced by KPNmail.nl mail-servers.
then, open Mail.app on your Mac to delete the existing Planet.nl eMail-account
goto Mail (in the top menu bar) > Prefereces > Accounts (tab) > select the Planet.nl account (from the list on the left) > – (the button with a minus-sign ; a.k.a. ‘delete’)
then goto Apple-icon (top-left in upper menu bar) > System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Add Other Account (bottom option on the right)
now, in the window that opens, DO NOT type email@example.com as the new eMail address, but use firstname.lastname@example.org instead !!! (even if you have never used username@kpnmail as your eMail address, it is available for you if you have a email@example.com eMail address)
now you will get an error message AND the option to manually choose either POP or IMAP
at ‘E-mailadres:’ put firstname.lastname@example.org (= the Planet.nl eMail address you want to use)
at ‘Gebruikersnaam:’ put email@example.com (= the Planet.nl account that usually consists of your last name and 3 numbers ; do not forget to add @planet.nl after it)
at ‘Wachtwoord:” put your password (the one that works for KPN Webmail)
at ‘Type account:’ choose IMAP
at ‘Server inkomende e-mail:’ put imap.kpnmail.nl
at ‘Server uitgaande e-mail:’ put smtp.kpnmail.nl
then click the ‘Log in’-button
Then open Mail.app and see that your Planet.nl eMail-account has been added and that your mail is being fetched
My WordPress.com website has been shifted to the revamped version of the WordPress Dashboard, but now, when I am trying to re-edit posts from before September 2020, I can only see the post’s title in the edit page… the body text is replaced by an error message saying “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed”.
What can I do to fix this ?
The underlying problem is not exactly clear, but the solution is rather simple :
make sure you are running the latest version of macOS, if not : upgrade to the latest version of macOS
make sure you are running the latest version of Safari (or the browser you are using), if not : upgade to the latest version
goto “View” (in the top menu bar)
click on “Reload without Content Blockers” (from the pulldown menu)
Note : the regular “Reload Page (CMD+R)” will NOT solve the problem !
note that despite the fact that both are versions from 2018, these will still work with macOS 11.0 Big_Sur
goto your downloads folder
first, double-click on the file named msd_-mac_cs5600f-14_11_5h-ea8_2.dmg
this will mount the ScanGear_CanoScan 5600F_141105.pkg
again, click on that and version 14.11 of the ScanGear driver installer will open
now, follow the on-screen directions and the latest ScanGear driver will be installed
then, double-click on the file named misd-mac-ijscanner2-4_1_4-ea21_3.dmg
this will mount the Canon IJScanner2_040104.pkg
again, click on that and version 4.1.4 the IJScanner2 driver installer will open
now, follow the on-screen directions and the latest IJScanner2 driver will be installed
when done, goto System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
if the CanoScan 5600F is already listed on the left, click it
if not, click the +sign (plus-sign) to add the scanner first
when done, click the CanoScan 5600F in the list on the left
when the scanner details open on the right, click on the “Open Scanner”-button
now, the built-in macOS scanner-app will open and it will immediately do a preview scan of whatever is in the scanner
NOTE : you might run into a small problem every once in a while ; when the automatic scanning preview starts, you might get an error saying “Scanner reported an error – Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons: – Scanner is turned off. – USB cable is disconnected. Please check and try again.” If so, just flip the scanner’s ON/OFF-switch in OFF-position manually and then back into ON-posistie. That should help in making the scanner preview work again.
I have have just upgraded to a new MacBook Air M1 2020 (with an Apple M1 processor) running macOS 11.0 Big_Sur. Now, I am trying to get my Canon PIXMA MG3250 All-in-one printer-scanner to work with it… but even though I can get the printer function to work, when I want it to scan I get an error…
Installing the Canon MG3250 through System Preferecens > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer was really simple as it was immediately seen through Bonjour. After installing, the MG3250’s icon is listed on the left, and when I click it, the window opens where I can choose either the “Print” or the “Scan” tab. After choosing the later, I get the “Open scanner”-button, and when I click that, the built-in macOS scanner-app opens the “Scanner” window… which gives this error : “Failed to open a connection to the device (-121345)” each time I try. I just can’t get it to work.
What is wrong ?
When you get this error in this setup, you will probably have gotten an error saying “IJScanner3” also. Do this to fix it :
Question : I just downloaded the new macOS 11 Big_Sur on my Mac mini (2018) and started installing. But even though it said that installing would take about 28 minutes, it’s now about 40 minutes and the installer hangs, the screen is black with just the white Apple-logo and an installer bar that hangs at about 95%.
What can I do ?
Just wait for about 15 to 20 minutes more, and it might just finish the last 5% of the installing process. If it doesn’t, press the power button on your Mac mini until it shuts down completely. Then, restart your Mac mini by pressing the power button again.
Note : this will probably work for any Mac, but it has been tested only on Mac mini (2018).
